What Are Tooth Extractions?

At Dali Dental, we make every attempt to conserve and maintain your natural teeth; however, there are cases in which a tooth or teeth might need to be extracted. A simple extraction removes a tooth that is visible over the gumline. This is normally used for a tooth that's decayed or damaged beyond repair. A surgical extraction takes out a tooth that hasn't erupted over the gums, such as the wisdom teeth and impacted teeth that don't have sufficient room to fit into your mouth. No matter the reason for having an extraction, Dr. Dao Pham will give you the best treatment. Contact our Plano, TX office to find out more or to schedule an assessment with Dr. Pham to enhance your smile.

What Can I Expect From A Tooth Extraction?

Extractions are done in our office with local anesthesia on the area near the tooth being treated. Different kinds of sedation may be used, depending on the extent of the procedure, to help you stay relaxed if you have some dental anxieties. Once you are prepared, Dr. Pham will start the procedure. In a simple extraction, Dr. Pham will loosen the tooth with a special device known as an elevator prior to removing the tooth. A surgical extraction involves making incisions into your gums to get to the tooth. If needed, the tooth may be broken up into smaller pieces so that it can be taken out. Once the tooth is removed, Dr. Pham will stitch the incision in your gums. Dr. Pham can write a prescription for antibiotics that should be taken prior to and following the procedure — in case you have a current infection, your immune system is weak, the procedure is lengthy, or you have some other special medical conditions.
